I don't have an entry for Mr. Venables in my 1980 edition of the New Groves, which makes him an unusually 'new' composer for my collection! I can therefore tell you little about him that he doesn't himself reveal on his own website, though in case that site ever goes missing in action, the short summary is: he was born in Liverpool (England) in 1955 and resides these days in Worcester. He has composed in several different genres, but is apparently best known and most highly regarded as a composer of 'art songs' -that is, song cycles and the like, in the tradition of Britten, Vaughan Williams, Finzi and (of course) many others.
